        Welcome

This is the MABEP HERS web site, the home of a group of experienced Maine business people, committed to high standards and ethics, that want to "raise the bar" in the field of residential building energy analysis to a new level of quality.

Each has agreed to provide Home Energy Rating Services in conformance with the national RESNET standards, including the Mortgage Industry National Home Energy Rating Systems Standards, under the MABEP Providership Policies and Procedures.

RESNET standards are officially recognized by the federal government for verification of building energy performance and are used in such programs as Federal Tax Incentives, the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR program and the Department of Energy's Building America Program.

These standards are recognized by the U.S. mortgage industry for use in capitalizing a building's energy performance for a mortgage loan, and "White Tag" certifications for financial investors.

Internationally, these standards are also well respected. For example, RESNET and the European Union have been collaberating for a number of years advancing international energy standards while the United States was not focused on energy efficiency. Today they are working on normalizing the RESNET Rating System with the EU Energy Performance Building Directives, while improving both. This normalization effort may encourage the introduction of new technologies, techniques, and processes here in the United States. In the far east, several developing countries are using them as the basis for their own codes and standards.

MABEP HERS Raters are all "Comprehensive HERS Raters" certified by an accredited HERS Provider and RESNET to inspect and test a home in order to evaluate each of the features specified in the RESNET standards and prepare a nationally recognized HERS Index rating according to the Mortgage Industry National Home Energy Rating System Standards.
