The Maine Association of Building Efficiency Professionals was established during the confusion resulting from the 2008 fuel oil spike as a way for all business people seeking to improve the energy efficiency of residential and commercial buildings, and reduce our dependence upon fossil fuels, to work together for the benefit of all Maine people.

Today, MABEP serves as a clearinghouse for technical data and new ideas that advance the cause of energy efficiency and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.  They also work to promote high standards of training and certification of all energy efficiency professionals regardless by whom they are employed and whom they serve.

MABEP also works with elected officials and government agencies to encourage policies that ensure  government programs do not provide an advantage for some individuals or businesses, at the expense of others, and efficient delivery of services and benefits in a fair and equitable manner.

MABEP strongly encourages our members to adhere to the highest ethical standards in their dealings with customers, other professionals and the general public.

The MABEP HERS Program is a direct result of the Association's commitment to high standards of training and certification of all energy professionals.  Part of the National Home Energy Rating System managed by RESNET, MABEP HERS uses the HERS Index the most widely accepted national standard for the energy rating of residential buildings today.  Until now it has not been widely available in Maine for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was a decision some years ago by state officials to not support HERS, and instead adopt weak state energy audit standards .

MABEP actively supports the professional certifications maintained by the Building Performance Institute & RESNET, the two most respected standards bodies in the residential building industry today.
